As if Waking from a Dream

All the memories, fantasies and illusions are broken and restructured in a dream world, chaotic but in order. The musicians should immerse in every note, infuse the thoughts into every sonority, let the subtle sounds fade away, as if waking from a dream.

In this piece, I try to explore Chinese Opera with chamber orchestra. The high register and multiphonics of the woodwinds; the soft but powerful brass; the wood blocks and temple blocks, two representative percussion sounds in Chinese Opera; various glissandos of strings; forward-moving rhythm of piano... these change constantly in each part, but the core is made up of fixed pitches from Yu Opera. These pitches converge into chords, grind against each other, dissolve into glissandos and crescendo into dissonances, then fade into delicate and subtle sonority.
