Field Before Rupture

Violin and Cello

6'-8'

Program Notes

"Field Before Rupture" is the third piece in my series inspired by natural soundscapes. It is based on a personal experience: moving through a vast, snow-covered, silent winter forest, where an occasional distant call briefly interrupts the stillness. At the center lies a frozen lake, under increasing sunlight, the ice begins to fracture, and, driven by motion beneath surface, the broken ice drifts, collides, and gradually dissolves.

The violin and cello do not function as separate voices but as parts of a shared sonic environment. The work focuses on the connection between body gesture and sound: many passages are notated textually, inviting performers to improvise according to the evolving direction of gesture and sound. Particular attention should be given to balancing gesture and sound, so that neither dominates but both remain closely aligned.
